*after bill's ex-wife, actress brenda benet (bixby) took her life in 1982, bill went into a deep depression and began to use crack cocaine to try and kill himself. he overdose a couple of times but eventually stopped before it would kill him.
*in 1990, 56-year old bill began to have back trouble and thought that he had pulled a muscle but it turned out to be prostate cancer and has his prostate removed immediately that night. bill's cancer began to disappear but in spring of 1992, 58-year old bill found out that his cancer had returned as a category nine and worst, it was terminal and gave him only 1 year to live. 59-year old bill married his third and final wife, judith kilban, overlooking the san franscisco bridge and six weeks later, bill collapsed on the set of 'blossom', a 1993 NBC sitcom that he was directing and slipped into a coma. he passed away on november 21, 1993 from a long two-year battle with prostate cancer at age 59.
